If an editor must
craft a work of art
from the mass of raw materials
submitted for publication,
then the editor is
the true author,
and the writer is
just a subcontract laborer.
What might art resemble
without modish patrons
and legalistic marketers?
It's little wonder that producers
have nothing but contempt
for unsanctioned artists!
It's little wonder that artists
are angry in their frustrated poverty!
It's little wonder that the public
only develops artistic appreciation
long after the composer is safely dead!
